New temporary exhibition open at Akaroa Museum. An exhibition of photography on Banks Peninsula
Opening this Easter, Akaroa Museum's new temporary exhibition is Catching Shadows: a century of photography on Banks Peninsula
This exhibition traces the history of photographers on Banks Peninsula, with an emphasis on Akaroa. It begins with the fabled Tīkao daguerreotype from the early 1840s and carries through to the work of Donald J. McKay from Le Bons Bay in the 1950s. With over 80 photographs on display, the exhibition is a feast of historic photography: past people, past landscapes and streetscapes rendered in sepia tones. A catalogue for the exhibition is also on sale.
The exhibition runs from 26 April 2023 through the winter. Akaroa Museum is open daily from 10:30 am.
10:30am to 4:00pm,
seven days a week.
